Liverpool vs Man City Combined XI: Arne Slot's Reds dominate ahead of Premier League showdown

Liverpool take on Manchester City today in what could prove to be one of the games of the Premier League season. A win for Liverpool would see them go nine points clear at the top of the table, and 11 ahead of defending champions City.

We take a look at the combined XI between the pair ahead of this afternoon’s monster meeting at Anfield of those to have made at least five Premier League starts, and excluding all unavailable players.

Goalkeeper

Caoimhin Kelleher may not be the best rated goalkeeper between the two teams, with Alisson taking that mantle, but the Brazilian’s absence means Kelleher features between the sticks with a WhoScored rating of 6.79.

Defence

Two of the four defenders in this XI play for Manchester City with Ruben Dias (6.62) and Josko Gvardiol (7.08) featuring at centre-back and left-back, respectively. Ibrahima Konate (6.85) would have made the cut alongside Virgil van Dijk (7.13) were it not for an injury sustained in the midweek win over Real Madrid, while Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.04) rounds off the defence.

Midfield

Liverpool dominate this area of the pitch, led of course by Mohamed Salah (7.68) with Luis Diaz (7.15) featuring on the opposite flank. Ryan Gravenberch (7.15) and Dominik Szoboszlai (6.83) link up in the middle of the park.

Attack

Erling Haaland has gone off the boil of late but the Manchester City hitman still features in this XI having returned a WhoScored rating of 7.52. The Norwegian star has 12 league goals to his name, a return he’ll hope to build upon today. Darwin Nunez (6.82) partners Haaland in attack to round off the combined XI.
