What are Top 200 and squad players on Football INDEX?

Football INDEX is the world’s first football stock market where you can buy and sell shares in footballers with real money. Football INDEX offers fans a chance to bet on the future success of football players compared to the short-lived outcome of betting on football results.

There are different ways to make money on Football INDEX. Traders can buy shares associated with footballers they think will increase in value. This can occur through improved performance over a prolonged period or by media speculation about a potential transfer, for example. In this instance, the aim is to buy low and sell high.

Traders can buy shares in players from two different lists: the ‘Top 200’ and ‘Squad players’. These lists are determined by the share price of a footballer, with the top 200 highest priced footballers from the previous day featuring in the Top 200 list.  Footballers can therefore be relegated to the Squad Player list, while players in the Squad Player list can be promoted to the Top 200 list.

Why does it matter what list they appear in? Well, it’s important to note that only footballers in the Top 200 are eligible to win Media Dividends and Match Day dividends. Footballers in the “Squad Players” list are only eligible to win Match Day dividends.

Media Dividends are dished out to the three most discussed footballers on a given day of trading. Football INDEX aggregate content from a variety of UK online football news outlets, helping drive a daily score. There are three Media Ranking winners on non-match days and only one winner on match days.

Football INDEX also introduce up to 50 footballers per day at a price of their discretion. New footballers are commonly referred to as an IPO (Initial Public Offering). IPOs can be released at any time and are not disclosed.
