Tottenham's dynamic duo star in Premier League Team of the Week
Tottenham, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle each dominate the Premier League team of the week after earning respective results over Fulham, Luton and Crystal Palace. Manchester United, Wolves, Liverpool, Fulham and Aston Villa are also represented in the XI.
Newcastle may have romped to a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday but the Magpies still needed a solid rearguard showing from Nick Pope to secure all the spoils and a clean sheet. Pope made three saves in the home triumph to help earn a WhoScored rating of 7.52.
Diogo Dalot (Manchester United) - 7.78
Manchester United's match winner from Saturday night makes the cut at right-back. Diogo Dalot scored just his second Premier League goal of his career in United's 2-1 win at Sheffield United at the weekend, beating Wes Foderingham from distance. The 24-year-old got forward well as he completed two dribbles to contribute towards his WhoScored rating of 7.78.
Wolves came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday with Craig Dawson key for Gary O'Neil's side at the heart of the defence. The 33-year-old was on hand to make six clearances, five tackles and three interceptions, and won two aerial duels, on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.39.
Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.90
Partnering Dawson at the heart of the defence is Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk. The Reds dominated the Merseyside Derby against 10-man Everton with the 2-0 scoreline flattering the Toffees. Van Dijk was quick to snuff out any potential threat as he won 10 aerial duels and made five clearances and two tackles. The Dutchman also picked out a teammate with 89.6% of his 106 attempted passes to land a WhoScored rating of 7.90.
Antonee Robinson (Fulham) - 7.26
Rounding off the backline is Fulham's Antonee Robinson. The Cottagers may have fallen to a 2-0 loss to Tottenham on Monday night, yet the American was solid at left-back for Marco Silva's side as he made five interceptions and four tackles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Robinson also got forward well where needed as he completed three dribbles to book his spot in the XI.
Jacob Murphy (Newcastle) - 9.34
With a WhoScored rating of 9.34, Jacob Murphy is the Premier League player of the week. Murphy shone on his first league start of the season as he directly contributed to three of Newcastle's four goals in their thumping win over Crystal Palace. The 28-year-old opened the scoring in the fourth minute and turned provider for Anthony Gordon and Callum Wilson either side of half time from respective returns of two shots and two key passes.
Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa) - 8.81
The star performer from Aston Villa's 4-1 win over West Ham, Douglas Luiz netted either side of half time for the Villans, beating Alphonse Areola with two of three shots. In a superb all-round performance, Luiz also made three key passes and three tackles to nail down his spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 8.81.
James Maddison (Tottenham) - 8.33
The first of two Tottenham players in the Premier League team of the week, James Maddison scored Tottenham's second after the restart in their 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night. The 26-year-old fired off a total of three shots on home turf, and was unfortunate not to add an assist having made four key passes in a performance that saw him yield a WhoScored rating of 8.33.
Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest) - 8.23
Featuring on the left flank this week is Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga. The summer signing registered assists number two and three of the season in their 2-2 draw at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon. The brace of assists came from three key passes as Elanga put in a solid shift that saw him earn a WhoScored rating of 8.23.
Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.91
The second Tottenham player in the side features on the frontline. Spurs skipper Son Heung-Min was directly involved in both goals in the north London side's 2-0 win over Fulham, putting Ange Postecoglou's side ahead in the first half before turning provider for James Maddison after the restart from respective returns of three shots and four key passes. An additional three dribbles saw Son earn a WhoScored rating of 8.91.
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) - 8.70
Nottingham Forest may have thrown away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Luton on Saturday but it was Chris Wood who earned the player of the match award. The Forest frontman netted twice from seven shots and won eight aerial duels to partner Son in attack with a WhoScored rating of 8.70.
