Tottenham quiet but effective as Lucas arrives in January window

Our writers have their say on how Tottenham fared in the January transfer window.

Martin Laurence: For a side that didn’t really need an upgrade on any position in their starting XI but instead some variety and strength in depth, Tottenham’s capture of Lucas Moura should prove astute. Elsewhere the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcus Edwards and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou will get experience on loan at decent levels and the club didn’t miss out on major targets likes the majority of the top six.

Overall grade: B-

Josh Wright: Once again, Tottenham left it late before adding to their squad. Mauricio Pochettino's side spent roughly £25m to sign Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain, which is a snip in today's market. The 25-year-old's stock has fallen this season but he will add something to Pochettino's offensive options that they do not already have. Having barely featured at all this season, it might take some time for the Brazilian to get up to speed.

Ben McAleer: There were no major outgoings at Tottenham with Mauricio Pochettino recovering key players just in time for the business end of the campaign. The capture of Lucas Moura affords an additional attacking option for the Spurs boss, though a number 8 to ease the burden on Mousa Dembele would have been a bonus last month. It was a successful January for Spurs though, that's for sure.
