The best value tips from Sunday's top matches in Europe
After a hectic midweek of European football it’s fair to say domestic action eases back in by way of big contests this weekend. Indeed, you have to really wait until Sunday for any top matches, and with that in mind we’ve picked out five tips, with three of the matches previewed streaming live on bet365.
Chelsea vs Arsenal - match preview
A repeat of both the FA Cup final and Community Shield, Chelsea and Arsenal go head-to-head for the third time in the space of six months, with The Gunners having come out on top in both Wembley encounters. This match up carries real significance for both managers though, potentially having saved both of their jobs in very different ways.
When the two met this time last year at The Emirates, Arsenal’s 3-0 first half lead inspired a change of tack from Conte that would ultimately win Chelsea the title after the Italian had come under pressure early in his Stamford Bridge tenure. The reverse fixture saw The Blues turn the tables, with Eden Hazard stealing the show, and the Belgian is set for his first start of the season having been rested in midweek.
The hosts have had more time to recover from their European exploits and also a significantly more straightforward tie to negotiate, so should be considered strong favourites. As such, odds of 3.00 on a home win by two or more goals - as has been the case in the last four meetings between these two in West London - is our tip for this one.
AC Milan vs Udinese - match preview
The first live stream offering from bet365 this weekend, AC Milan are unsurprisingly well fancied to make home advantage count on Sunday after a remarkable summer in the transfer market. There were signs last weekend that the overhaul will have its teething problems, falling to a 4-1 defeat to Lazio, and while the rossoneri bounced back with a convincing win in Vienna on Thursday - with stellar performances from new signings Calhanoglu and Silva - they may be a little fatigued.
Montella name a strong starting XI in the Europa League ahead of a fixture this weekend that has been very problematic for Milan in the past. Indeed, Udinese did the double over his side last season and have actually won 5 of the last 8 meetings between the two. With all that in mind the odds of 3.00 on the visitors to win or draw - having done so on three of their last four trips to San Siro - are very high indeed.
PSV vs Feyenoord - match preview
It may not be the biggest rivalry in Holland, with both sets of fans more eager to get one over on Ajax, but this is still a big game between two of the traditional top three in the Eredivisie. It was Feyenoord that won the league last season, with PSV paying for two many draws having lost just twice all season, and the hosts will hope to exploit any tiredness or dip in morale from the champions after a heavy defeat in midweek.
Van Bronckhorst’s men were outclassed by Manchester City and are without star man Nicolai Jorgensen, though Cocu won’t be able to call upon summer signing Hirving Lozano after the Mexican had made an electric start. With attacking talent absent on either side we could see a relatively low scoring encounter, so odds of 2.07 on under 2.5 goals is great value given there have been just 7 in total across the last four meetings.
Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid - match preview
Already a huge game for Real Madrid at this early stage of the season, they can’t afford to lose any further ground on the pace setters after consecutive draws. The fact that they face one of said pace setters in Real Sociedad is not ideal then, still suffering in La Liga in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, whilst also without the likes of Marcelo, Benzema and potentially Asensio.
The hosts, meanwhile, have had no such problems at the business end, scoring 10 goals across three outings, and they’ll fancy their chances of adding more on Sunday. This should be an entertaining game with chances at both ends, and Gareth Bale will hope to continue an excellent record at The Anoeta, scoring in each of his four visits. Potentially leading the line as the only available member of the BBC, he’s at 2.20 to score at anytime.
PSG vs Lyon - match preview
The toughest test thus far of a Ligue 1 season that has been a cake walk for PSG to date, Sunday night’s game promises to be an excellent watch, available via live stream at bet365.com. The leaders have been in scintillating form, scoring 19 goals and another five in Europe, with Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani all on the scoresheet in the last two.
Lyon, however, have also been in good knick in front of goal, with summer signing Mariano making a strong start and Nail Fekir looking like the strongest player outside of Paris. Six of the last seven meetings between these two have seen both teams find the back of the net, and PSG should have too much for the visitors so odds of 2.05 on a home win with goals at both ends is our tip for this one.
So, there’s the chance to more than double your money in each of our tips this week, or acca fans could compile them all into a tasty five-fold at 84.22.
