European Team of the Season: Left-back – Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig)

We have already Joshua Kimmich in the best rated XI from Europe’s top five leagues and now we have a second Germany international in Marcel Halstenberg. The RB Leipzig left-back finished the 2018/19 campaign as the fourth highest WhoScored rated player in the Bundesliga, which is a testament to his performances for Die Bullen.

Halstenberg, who impressively boasts nine WhoScored statistically calculated strengths, played a direct hand in nine league goals from left-back (three goals, six assists), while also playing an important role when Leipzig didn’t have the ball.

Leipzig had the best defensive record in the Bundesliga this season (29 goals conceded) and Halstenberg averaged 2.4 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, as well as finishing the campaign with an impressive aerial success rate of 67%. Halstenberg has correctly now established himself as Germany’s first choice left-back under Joachim Loew.
