Carabao Cup Team of the Week: No Manchester City players after derby defeat

Here we run through the best WhoScored rated XI from the midweek Carabao Cup semi-final second leg ties, with additional information about their Football Index share prices.

Manchester City and Aston Villa both advanced to the final, albeit both of their respective matches involved a great deal of tension. City progressed despite losing 1-0 at home to rivals Manchester United and Villa scored a stoppage time winner to eliminate Leicester.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea (Manchester United) - 7.83 rating

Football Index share price - £0.66

David de Gea has endured a nightmare run of form over the last 12 months but looked back to his old self in United's triumph away to City on Wednesday night. De Gea was particularly key in the opening stages, making several decisive blocks, and ended the game with four saves.

Right-back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United) - 7.17 rating

Football Index share price -  £1.71

Manchester United's defence had to soak up a lot of pressure at the Etihad after only managing 39% possession but they limited Manchester City to just four shots on target. Aaron Wan-Bissaka had his hands full with Raheem Sterling but, in typical Wan-Bissaka fashion, the 22-year-old made seven tackles and interceptions combined.

Centre-back: Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 8.18 rating

Football Index share price - £1.78

Harry Maguire finished the midweek action as the WhoScored player of the round. Aside from one moment of madness in the second half that should really have been punished by David Silva, Maguire was a rock at the back. He notably showed impressive speed to catch Raheem Sterling and deny his England team-mate a clear shot on goal midway through the first half. He made six tackles and interceptions combined and won four aerial duels.

Centre-back: Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - 7.20 rating

Football Index share price - £0.81

Asked to play as the third centre-back in a back three, Luke Shaw overcame a difficult start to the match and grew into his role. A lapse in concentration should have been converted by Sergio Aguero in the opening 10 minutes but the England international finished the match with three tackles and interceptions combined, two clearances and as many aerial duels won. He was even singled out for praise by City boss Pep Guardiola after the game.

Left-back: Matt Targett (Aston Villa) - 7.98 rating

Football Index share price - £0.50

Matt Targett sent Aston Villa on their way to Wembley with a well-taken 12th-minute goal in their 2-1 win over Leicester on Tuesday night. The 24-year-old had two attempts in total and was a constant threat from wide areas with four key passes registered. Targett also made three interceptions to help keep Leicester at bay.

Central midfield: Youri Tielemans (Leicester) - 7.14 rating

Football Index share price - £1.97

Leicester tried their best to eliminate Aston Villa but weren't clinical enough in front of goal when it mattered most. Youri Tielemans had one attempted saved by Orjan Nyland in the Villa goal and also created three goalscoring chances for his team-mates. Moreover, he completed two dribbles and won as many fouls. Without the ball, Tielemans managed four tackles and interceptions combined.

Carabao Cup Team of the Week: No Manchester City players after derby defeat

Central midfield: Fred (Manchester United) - 7.95 rating

Football Index share price - £1.22

Fred continues to go from strength to strength for Manchester United and showed exactly why Pep Guardiola was desperate to sign the midfielder for City. Other than a tame free-kick at the end, it was from a Fred set-piece that United broke the deadlock in the first half. The Brazilian registered three key passes in total and completed eight tackles and interceptions combined to stop City in their tracks.

Right wing: Trezeguet (Aston Villa) - 7.11 rating

Trezeguet was Aston Villa's hero on Tuesday night after coming off the bench to score a stoppage time winner and send Dean Smith's side to the Carabao Cup final. The Egypt international only had five touches of the ball after coming on in the 76th-minute but hit the target with both of his attempts. The 25-year-old also made one interception in that time.

Attacking midfield: James Maddison (Leicester) - 7.15 rating

Football Index share price - £4.78

James Maddison tried his best to inspire Leicester into the Carabao Cup final but it just wasn't his night. The England international had 10 attempts on goal in total but hit the target with just two of those. Maddison was fouled six times, registered two key passes and completed as many dribbles. The Manchester United target was certainly influential but it just didn't go his way at Villa Park.

Left wing: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 7.40 rating

Football Index share price - £4.28

Jack Grealish offered another reminder exactly why he should be in the England squad for Euro 2020 after leading his boyhood club into March's Carabao Cup final. Grealish assisted Targett for Villa's first goal and was typically fouled five times. The 24-year-old created one more goalscoring chance and completed two dribbles.

Striker: Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester) - 7.26 rating

Football Index share price - £1.06

With Jamie Vardy not deemed fit enough to start for Leicester, Kelechi Iheanacho was given another opportunity to impress and the 23-year-old scored their equaliser in the second half. Iheanacho hit the target with three of his five attempts on goal and also registered two key passes.
