DraftKings: Chelsea star leads the way for top performers from gameweek 5

Instead of season-long leagues, DraftKings allows customers to compete in single-day, online fantasy sports contests across the largest variety of professional sports. DraftKings customers enter contests by selecting and submitting a roster of players before the games begin. Players earn points based on their in-game performance and there are huge cash prizes for contest winners.

With that, we have an exclusive WhoScored.com offer for first time DraftKings users. WhoScored have partnered up with DraftKings to bring weekly tipster articles to give you the edge over your rivals. By depositing $5, new users will automatically be credited an additional $20 in DraftKings credit and also receive a $3 ticket bonus for another one-day fantasy sports contest. DraftKings have paid out more than $750,000 to users on their first-paid contests and more than $5 billion across all sports. Good at fantasy football? Then this is definitely the game for you.

The second instalment of WhoScored.com’s collaboration with DraftKings reveals the top performers from the last gameweek. Here, we will note players from different positions, highlighting players that might be in form heading into the next round of games.

DraftKings: Chelsea star leads the way for top performers from gameweek 5

We’re excited for the contests this weekend, but an FYI: we receive a commission from DraftKings, but are not employees and don’t have access to non-public info. These are just our personal thoughts and expertise on the upcoming matches!

Goalkeepers

Michel Vorm (Tottenham) - 7.82 rating

Michel Vorm may have shipped twice in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool, but it could’ve been a lot worse for Spurs had the Dutchman not been a sturdy performer between the sticks. He earned a WhoScored.com rating of 7.82 in the loss, better than any other goalkeeper in gameweek 5, having made an impressive eight saves, with his performance keeping Spurs in with a shout of securing a positive result.

Asmir Begovic (Bournemouth) - 7.48 rating

Leicester have never beaten Bournemouth in the Premier League and that run continued last weekend as the Cherries smashed the Foxes 4-2. Despite a dominating home performance, Bournemouth were up against it over the 90 minutes, with Asmir Begovic on hand to make five saves to ensure three points for the hosts.

Ederson (Manchester City) - 7.38 rating

Manchester City secured a routine home win over Fulham last weekend, coming away as 3-0 victors to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. It may have looked comfortable on paper, yet Ederson was forced into three saves in the win and with one cross claim to his name, the Brazilian was good value for a 7.38 rating

Honourable mention

Joe Hart (Burnley) - 7.27 rating
(DraftKings Salary: $4,700)

Burnley have started the campaign abysmally, but it could have been so much worse without Joe Hart at his best. The Clarets shotstopper was again in excellent form for Burnley and it was he who ensured the scoreline was kept low in the 1-0 loss at Wolves on Sunday. Indeed, Hart made fives in the defeat and it could have been a lot worse without the 31-year-old performing to the best of his ability.

Defenders

Shane Duffy (Brighton) - 8.98 rating

(DraftKings Salary: $2,900)

Brighton fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Southampton on Monday night, with centre-back Shane Duffy halving the deficit midway through the second half. The centre-back excelled and did enough to gain a WhoScored rating of 8.98, better than any other defender.

Chris Smalling (Manchester United) - 7.99 rating

Another goalscoring defender, Chris Smalling doubled Manchester United’s advantage at Watford last Saturday as Jose Mourinho’s side went on to win 2-1. Smalling won seven aerial duels and nine clearances in the victory at Vicarage Road to return a 7.99 rating and is one to perhaps consider for your DraftKings team this week.

James Tarkowski (Burnley) - 7.88 rating

Similarly to Joe Hart, Burnley would have been trounced by Wolves had it not been for James Tarkowski at the back. The England international blocked a season-high five shots in the narrow 1-0 loss and despite ending up on the losing side, did enough to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.88.

Honourable mentions

Lucas Digne (Everton) - 7.87

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace) - 7.86 (DraftKings Salary: $5,100)

Fabian Delph (Manchester City) - 7.80

Willy Boly (Wolves) - 7.65 (DraftKings Salary: $2,900)

Harry Maguire (Leicester) - 7.61 (DraftKings Salary: $3,700)

Midfielders

Eden Hazard (Chelsea) - 10.0 rating

The WhoScored player of the week with a perfect 10, Eden Hazard excelled in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Cardiff City, bagging a hat-trick to maintain the Blues’ 100% start to the season and return the man of the match award. An additional four successful dribbles helped push his score so high.

Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth) - 8.63 rating

(DraftKings Salary: $8,400)

Ryan Fraser was unfortunate not to make the WhoScored Premier League team of the week with a 8.63 rating, but a certain Eden Hazard was blocked his path into the XI. The Scotland international ensured Bournemouth maintained their fine Premier League record against Leicester as he scored two and assisted one in a 4-2 win over the Foxes.

David Silva (Manchester City) - 8.50 rating

David Silva put in a man of the match display in Manchester City’s routine win over Fulham last week, with the Spaniard getting on the scoresheet in the victory. Additional returns of three key passes and two successful dribbles saw the Spaniard gain a fine WhoScored rating of 8.50.

Honourable mentions

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) - 8.43

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Southampton) - 8.30 (DraftKings Salary: $3,200)

Leroy Sane (Manchester City) - 8.14

Willian (Chelsea) - 7.95

Fernandinho (Manchester City) - 7.92 (DraftKings Salary: $4,200)

Forwards

Olivier Giroud (Chelsea) - 8.46 rating

Olivier Giroud did his chances of a regular starting spot no harm at all with a fine display in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Cardiff. The French striker provided two assists for two of Eden Hazard’s three goals and such a commendable display from the World Cup winner earned him a WhoScored rating of 8.46.

Josh King (Bournemouth) - 8.43 rating

(DraftKings Salary: $6,400)

With one goal and one assist, Josh King churned out an effective attacking display in Bournemouth’s 4-2 win over Leicester as he gained a WhoScored rating of 8.43 in the victory. Two shots, one key pass and three successful dribbles contributed to a notable performance from King, who is one to potentially include in your DraftKings side as Bournemouth seek to maintain their fine start to the campaign at Burnley.

Marko Arnautovic (West Ham) - 8.14 rating

West Ham finally landed their first win of the season as they put Everton to the sword in a 3-1 win on Sunday. Marko Arnautovic was the star of the show for the Hammers once more, with the Austrian scoring one and assisting another in a man of the match display at Goodison Park. One key pass and one shot helped Arnautovic to a WhoScored rating of 8.14.

Honourable mentions

Danny Ings (Southampton) - 8.02 (DraftKings Salary: $5,900)

Raul Jimenez (Wolves) - 8.02 (DraftKings Salary: $5,900)

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) - 7.62

Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) - 7.50 (DraftKings Salary: $6,500)

Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United) - 7.43 (DraftKings Salary: $8,900)
