Siena vs Palermo - Preview

Any team in Serie A is happy to see Palermo arrive, as the Rosanero have the worst away record in the league, not having won a game on the road in the 2011/12 season.

Siena are threatened by relegation but haven’t struggled in front of goal like some of their lowly rivals, only failing to score in 2 of their last 10 games, with one of those being a respectable goalless draw against Juventus.

Palermo have also failed to score only twice in the same amount of games, but fixtures involving the Sicilians average the second most goals in the entire division.

Following an outstanding start to the season that saw them top of the table, Levante have disintegrated in terrible fashion and are winless in eight games. Bottom of the form table, they visit an Espanyol side that are going well under promising coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Due to their inability to defend on their travels, Levante’s last five away games in La Liga have all gone over 2.5 goals, so 2.1 is a large price for this to happen again at Cornella.

The Catalans are only 1.72 to win, but this seems fair given how poor their visitors have been in the past few months. Pochettino, a defender, has set his side out to be solid first, and score goals second, but they can do both very proficiently, with a particular knack for protecting a lead.

Given Casilla’s outstanding form between the sticks – he is Espanyol’s highest rated player – a clean sheet may be on the cards for the hosts and they’re a well-priced 2.6 to win to nil.

Arsenal vs Tottenham - Preview

This has been billed as one of the most significant North London derbies in years, with it potentially being the pivot in a power shift from the Emirates to White Hart Lane.

Only the two Manchester teams are better on the road than Tottenham, and Harry Redknapp will smell blood, with Arsenal struggling with both on- and off-the-pitch issues. Disquiet about Arsene Wenger’s future has affected the players’ confidence, and a lengthy injury list has stopped the Gunners from putting out a regular, settled eleven.

This has contributed to their error-prone defence, where there hasn’t been sufficient opportunity to form defensive understandings, meaning this renewal of the North London derby could be one for goals. There have been over 2.5 goals in five of Arsenal’s last six games in the Premier League, while Spurs have scored at least two goals themselves in 18 of their last 27 games (66%).

These stats lead us towards the over 2.5 goals (1.7) or more healthily-priced, Tottenham to score over 1.5 team goals (2.25).

The obvious bet for a goalscorer in this game is Robin Van Persie. Top scorer in the league, and contributor of nearly half of Arsenal’s goals, he has hit the net 7 times in his last four outings at the Emirates. A more controversial goalscorer would be ex-Arsenal man, Emmanuel Adebayor. Given he may be struggling for fitness, this bet works just as well if he comes off the bench, giving it a decent shout for a value goalscoring punt.
