Everday, Football INDEX highlights the five biggest market movers over a 24-hour period. Here are the current five:
1. CRISTIANO PICCINI (SPORTING CP)
Cristiano Piccini hasn’t even completed his first season at Sporting and the 25-year-old is already being linked with a summer move away.
The Italian right-back has started 22 league matches for Sporting after joining from Spanish side Real Betis in a deal worth less than €3m last summer.
However, now reports from Portugal have emerged linking Piccini with a £17.5m move to Arsenal.
Hector Bellerin has been heavily linked with a summer exit from the Gunners, so there is a chance the Premier League outfit will need a new full-back.
As a result, Piccini’s Football INDEX share price has increased 24.99% in the last 24 hours to £0.64 a share.
However, Arsenal do not even know who will be there manager next season so it’s unlikely there is any real substance to these claims. He should not be considered for your portfolios.
2. BRUNO MARTINS INDI (STOKE)
Despite the fact Stoke are on the brink of relegation to the Championship, Bruno Martins Indi is the second biggest market mover on Football INDEX in the last day of trading.
Traders are certainly not banking on Martins Indi to turn Stoke’s form around, but casting an eye on the future.
With relegation imminent, a lot of clubs will be eyeing Stoke’s players. Xherdan Shaqiri will almost certainly leave, while Football INDEX traders are gambling on Martins Indi securing a summer move.
At £0.41 a share, he might prove a useful acquisition, but it’s an option the WhoScored Expert would personally swerve.
Of Premier League outfielders that have started at least 10 games this season, Martins Indi is among the 15 lowest WhoScored rated players in the division (6.39).
3. ELSEID HYSAJ (NAPOLI)
Reports have emerged from Italy in the last 24 hours suggesting Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj is getting a lot of attention from a host of Premier League sides.
The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old, who has developed into a first-team regular for the Serie A giants.
With suggestions Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is on his way to Chelsea, there might be more to those reports than meets the eye.
Sarri gave the Albania international his league debut at Empoli before taking him to Napoli with him in 2015.
His Football INDEX share price has increased 18.74% in the last 24 hours and should be tracked ahead of the summer, particularly if Sarri moves to Chelsea.
4. JASON DENAYER (GALATASARAY)
Jason Denayer’s loan stint at Galatasaray will come to an end in the summer, but his future is still unclear. He is surplus to requirements at Manchester City and will leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
With that in mind, Football INDEX traders have gambled on the fact he will move clubs in the summer. In fact, his share price has increased 17.23% in the last 24 hours as a result.
The 22-year-old reportedly wants to secure a permanent switch to Turkish giants Galatasaray despite the fact he has only started 13 league matches this season.
Of Super Lig players that have started at least 10 league games this season, only Besiktas duo Gary Medel (92.9%) and Atiba Hutchinson (92.8%) have a better pass success rate than Denayer (90.1%).
However, Denayer has really fallen flat on the hype that surrounded his raise through the City academy and he is one to avoid on Football INDEX.
5. LAZAR MARKOVIC (ANDERLECHT)
Many Liverpool fans hoped Lazar Markovic would be turning in the sort of displays Mohamed Salah is for Liverpool on a weekly basis. Instead, Markovic is out on loan at Belgium side Anderlecht and hasn’t made a first-team appearance for Liverpool since the 2014/15 season.
Markovic, who cost the Reds £20m in 2014, will finally be able to put his Liverpool nightmare behind him when his current deal expires at the end of the current campaign.
The 24-year-old is one of Liverpool's worst signings in recent history, but that hasn’t deterred Football INDEX traders from backing the Serbian winger. His share price has increased 16.1% in the last 24 hours with traders gambling on where he will end up.
However, it’s unlikely that Markovic will turn around his career anytime soon and you should consider alternative options if you are looking to add to your Football INDEX portfolios.
