Premier League team news and prediction: Wolves vs Man City

Wolves will hope to catch Manchester City cold in a similar way Crystal Palace shocked Manchester United on Saturday when the two sides meet on Monday night.

Wolves did the double over City in the Premier League last season, becoming only the second side to do so against Pep Guardiola in his managerial career.

As far as first games go, this is not an ideal start for an undercooked City side. Ahead of Monday's match, we have all your need-to-know match information in one place.

Team News

Wolves sanctioned the departure of Diogo Jota to Liverpool over the weekend to leave them a man short in attack. Jonny remains the only injury concern for Nuno's side heading into Tuesday's match, with summer arrival Marcal set to deputise once again. Adama Traore will once again be required at right wing-back with the signing of Nelson Semedo from Barcelona not yet done.

Manchester City will be without Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva through injury, while Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for COVID-19 and misses out. Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez have both recently recovered from COVID-19 and may be short of fitness, with summer signings Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres pushing for debuts.

Probable XIs

Premier League team news and prediction: Wolves vs Man City

Wolves (343): Patricio; Boly, Coady, Saiss; Traore, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Marcal; Podence, Jimene, Neto

Man City (433): Ederson; Walker, Garcia, Laporte, Ake; De Bruyne, Rodri, Foden; Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling

Key Battle: Raul Jimenez vs Gabriel Jesus

Premier League team news and prediction: Wolves vs Man City

After losing the likes of Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota to bigger clubs this summer, Wolves have done very well to keep hold of Raul Jimenez. The 29-year-old scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season and opened his account for the 2020/21 campaign in Wolves first game of the season. Jimenez also netted in this fixture last season, as Wolves came from 2-0 down to beat City 3-2 in December.

With Aguero still on the mend from a knee injury suffered at the end of last season, it is once again up to Gabriel Jesus to lead the line for City. Aguero could be missing for the next two months so it's important Jesus gets off to a flyer with Liverpool already six points ahead of City before they have even started the season. Jesus returned 14 goals in the Premier League last season but according to xG he should have won the Golden Boot. He needs to be more efficient with his chances
