Lukaku has last laugh among Premier League man of the match performers

The March madness has begun in the Premier League, kicking off with a controversy filled North London Derby, but the best individual performances were saved for later in the day as we run through the WhoScored man of the match winners.

Kieran Trippier - 7.84: TOTTENHAM 1-1 Arsenal

In a game in which the star names on show were frustrated for most of the afternoon, Trippier was a strong performer in the first half in particular. His delivery into the box in the first half caused problems, while no player made more tackles than the England international.

David Silva - 7.97: Bournemouth 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY

With Bournemouth sitting extremely deep in an attempt to stifle the champions it took a cool head to make the breakthrough, and there are few cooler than Silva, whose composure enabled him to tee up Riyad Mahrez for the only goal of the game. That was one of four chances the Spaniard created, as well as producing four tackles.

Shane Duffy - 8.45: BRIGHTON 1-0 Huddersfield

In what was a huge game for both teams involved, Brighton needed to get back to basics defensively to end a seven-game winless streak and Duffy ensured they did just that. As well as posing a big threat in the opposite box, mustering three shots, the Ireland international won four tackles, 11 aerial duels and made 11 clearances.

Wilfried Zaha - 8.16: Burnley 1-3 CRYSTAL PALACE

It was another strong performance from the in-form winger who scored Palace’s third goal of an impressive win at Turf Moor and his fifth in five matches for the Eagles. The 26-year-old also completed four dribbles and chipped in with two interceptions when out of possession.

Romelu Lukaku - 8.89: MANCHESTER UNITED 3-2 Southampton

This time last week Lukaku was still something of a laughing stock to some. Many felt he had become a liability at United but in the space of four days the Belgian has scored four goals that have earned his side a crucial five points in their pursuit of a Champions League finish. The 25-year-old hit the target with four of five shots and completed three dribbles in a second successive match-winning display.

Roman Saiss - 8.81: WOLVES 2-0 Cardiff

Clearly unimpressed by his midfield in the shock defeat at Huddersfield in midweek, Nuno dropped both Moutinho and Neves and Saiss certainly stepped up to the plate. The Moroccan international won three tackles, 11 aerial duels and made 10 clearances, as well as completing 90 per cent of his passes.

Declan Rice - 8.40: WEST HAM 2-0 Newcastle

Rice’s reputation continues to go from strength-to-strength with the youngster putting in another timely reminder of his credentials ahead of this month’s international break. The 20-year-old scored his second goal of the season to give the Hammers an early lead as well as producing the most tackles (six) of all players at the London Stadium.
