Arsenal captain Aubameyang among the best gameweek 13 Fantasy Football picks
Who are the best transfers for FPL Gameweek 13? 4-time top 1k and 5-time top 5k finisher Abdul Rehman uses stats, fixtures and the eye test to find the best Fantasy Premier League players with the potential to pick up big points and help shoot you up the rankings
Marcos Alonso (£5.6m) – Chelsea
Fixture: Manchester United (H)
With Ben Chilwell’s unfortunate injury in the midweek Champions League win against Juventus, this has now brought Marcos Alonso back into the picture. The Spaniard has three goals and two assists in 14 league starts under Thomas Tuchel, averaging an attacking return every three games. His underlying numbers when he has started this season have been decent and historically he has been a fantastic FPL asset.
Chelsea play Manchester United in gameweek 13. With the state United are in at the moment, this is a good fixture for the Blues. The bookies agree as they have them as the third favourites to keep a clean sheet (44%).
Furthermore, Chelsea’s defence has been phenomenal at both ends of the pitch. They have only conceded four goals (1st), 71 shots in the box (2nd) and an xGC of 13.4 (3rd). They have also kept eight clean sheets (1st). Six different defenders have scored for them this season, which clearly shows the system they are operating favours the wing-backs especially.
Although United have had no problems scoring goals this season, they have just lost their manager. That may affect them negatively and Chelsea’s defensive numbers are just too good to ignore. If Chilwell is to be out for a while, then Alonso becomes almost essential. Even if Ben’s injury is short term, then a short term move for him would also be worth it in my opinion.
Diogo Jota (£7.5m) – Liverpool
Fixture: Southampton (H)
The Liverpool forward now has five goals and one assist in nine starts. He has accumulated 20 shots in the box, 11 shots on target with an xG of 4.74 and he has also created four big chances with an xA of 2.90.
At only £7.5m, he is an essential player to have in our teams as long as Robert Firmino (£8.8m) is injured. His stats are as good as the premium options and he is playing as the number 9 in the best attacking team in the league.
Liverpool host Southampton in gameweek 13, which should be another routine win for the Reds. They have scored 35 goals (1st) with 86 shots on target (1st), 162 shots in the box (1st) and an xG of 31.3 (1st). And although Saints have been good defensively this season, they will be no match for Liverpool in my opinion.
The bookmakers also have Liverpool as the joint-favourites to score 2.5+ goals (49%) in gameweek 13 and it’s no surprise given how superior they have been in the final third compared to their peers. Diogo Jota is also priced at a healthy 46% to score anytime, which makes him the third highest midfielder.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£9.9m) – Arsenal
Fixture: Newcastle United (H)
The Arsenal forward has four goals and one assist to his name, and has had 20 shots in the box, 13 shots on target and an xG of 4.85 (4th). In addition, Aubameyang has also created nine chances with an xA of 1.27.
Arsenal play one of their most attractive fixtures of the season in gameweek 13 as they take on Newcastle United. The Toon have conceded 27 goals (20th), 108 shots in the box (14th), 62 shots on target (19th) and an xGC of 23.6 (19th). They have been terrible at the back and it doesn’t look like new manager Eddie Howe will do much for their defensive solidity going by his record.
Aubameyang has been Arsenal's talisman over the past four seasons and his scoring record of 68 goals and 16 assists in 123 league games tells us all we need to know about his pedigree.
He is the Gunners' top scorer this season also and their first-choice centre forward. The Gabon international is very likely to score the most goals in that team come the end of the season and his stats show that he is their most attacking player. It is also worth noting that he is also on penalties.
Although over the season there will probably be better value forwards, for this week he is one of the best for sure, and the bookies agree. He is the second favourite to score anytime (55%) in gameweek 13, and Arsenal are also third favourites to score 2.5+ goals (31%).
