Manchester United boost in pursuit of Varane

Raphael Varane has told his Real Madrid teammates he wants to leave at the end of the season, claims MARCA.

The Madrid centre-back has spent the last eight years at the club and has won every trophy on offer during his time there.

Varane has refused to talk about his future during the international break but it has now emerged the 25-year-old is serious about leaving Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane’s return has done little to change Varane’s mind and it is being reported the 2018 World Cup winner has told his teammates he wants a change of scenery.

Varane has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent years and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward made it clear he was willing to spend £100m to sign him last summer.

United are on the market for a world-class centre-back this summer and news that Varane wants to play for a new club next season will not doubt filter through to Woodward.

Varane is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world but has struggled with injuries during his time at Madrid.

In fact, the Frenchman has never made 30 appearances in a single-league campaign since joining Madrid from Lens in 2011.

Interestingly, Madrid have a 100% win ratio when Varane has not started in the league this season compared to just 52.2% when he has not featured from the off.
