Ralph Hasenhuttl, the manager of high-flying RB Leipzig, has sensationally confirmed he is in line to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
RB Leipzig, who were only promoted to German’s top tier this season, are currently top of the Bundesliga and one of just two unbeaten teams in the division.
Their performances this season, which has them three points clear of Bayern Munich, have seen a number of their players linked with big money moves away from the club, but their manager, Hassenhuttl, is also now on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
However, the 49-year-old has now confirmed there has been contact for the Austrian manager to succeed Wenger when he calls time on his managerial career, which could be at the end of this season when his existing deal is due to expire.
“It was a well-researched story. There was a lot of truth to it,” The Sun quote Hasenhuttl as saying in his pre-match conference. “I have heard of worse fates than succeeding the longest-serving manager in England. It’s not damaging my reputation, is it?
“We don’t have to put too much thought into [the Arsenal job]. I have found my luck here.”
Leipzig are on joint longest winning streak of any team in Europe’s top five leagues this season (7) and haven’t lost a league game since May 2016 (vs MSV Duisburg).
