West Ham bid for Sam Johnstone rejected

West Ham have had a £10m bid for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone rejected, claims The Athletic.

David Moyes' side are on the market for Lukas Fabianski's long-term successor, with the 36-year-old out of contract next summer.

West Brom are bracing themselves for interest in Johnstone following relegation to the Championship last season but are believed to value the England international at £20m.

Johnstone has previously been linked with a return to boyhood club Manchester United but West Ham have seemingly made the first move for the 28-year-old.

However, the Hammers are unlikely to return with an improved offer for the England shot-stopper as he will also be a free agent in 2022.

Moyes' side are instead expected to ramp up their interest in Paris Saint-Germain outcast Alphonse Areola, who impressed on loan with Fulham last season.

Johnstone made more saves than any other goalkeeper in Europe's top 5 leagues last season (164).
