Prediction

  • This match marks Crystal Palace's introduction into the WSL having been promoted from the Championship.
  • Palace are now the 19th different team in the WSL and are the first debuting team since Leicester City in 2021. They will be facing a team that knows of the struggle of getting into the league in Spurs as they debuted in 2019/20 in this league.
  • Spurs have great form against newly promoted sides, having won six of the eight games against them. This, however, marks the first time they come up against one on the opening day.
  • Palace will be adding to another record, becoming the third team to play their first ever WSL game in a London derby. Arsenal and Chelsea played each other on their first game on the first season of the WSL in 2011 and Spurs played Chelsea in 2019, losing 1-0 at Stamford Bridge with current Spurs player Beth England scoring the goal for Chelsea.
  • Unfortunately for Palace, whilst they will put in a good performance, this'll be a game where they learn the level they need to be at to compete in the league.
