Team News

Motherwell
Celtic
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named one enforced change to the Steelmen side that beat Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road prior to the international break, before a sole goal defeat to Dundee at Fir Park last Saturday afternoon.
  • Aston Oxborough continued in goal behind Liam Gordon, Kofi Balmer and Dan Casey, who replaced the injured Paul McGinn at the back. Stephen O'Donnell remained at right wing-back as Ewan Wilson kept his place on the left hand-side.
  • Davor Zdravkovski and Andy Halliday started in the middle of the park with Lennon Miller a bit further forward. Zach Robinson was joined in attack by Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, who scored his first goal for the Well in Edinburgh against the Hibees.
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers named just one change to the Celtic side that blew a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Aberdeen in Glasgow, before they shut out Atalanta 0-0 in the Champions League to pick up a precious point in Bergamo.
  • Kasper Schmeichel continued in goal, behind an unchanged back four of Alex Valle, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty and Alistair Johnston as Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers continued to miss out through injury.
  • Reo Hatate, who netted the opener against Aberdeen, accompanied Callum McGregor and Arne Engels in midfield. Daizen Maeda and Nicholas Kühn supported Adam Idah, as opposed to Kyogo Furuhashi, on Wednesday night.

Prediction

  • Two of the current top five in the Scottish Premiership meet as Motherwell host Celtic on Sunday afternoon at Fir Park.
  • Motherwell spurned the chance to win three Scottish Premiership matches on the spin for the first time since September 2023, having won four of their last five games before defeat to Dundee. Three points behind Rangers in fourth, it's been a solid start to the season for the Steelmen. The Well posed a threat to Celtic both home and away last season, and are aiming to do so here too.
  • Celtic continued their longest ever unbeaten run against Aberdeen, as 25 meetings became 26 without defeat, despite the Dons battling back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Celtic Park last weekend. But the Hoops put their domestic disappointment behind them as a backs-to-the-wall Champions League performance saw them leave Bergamo with a precious point against Atalanta.
  • Motherwell have gone toe-to-toe with the best teams in Scottish football this season, but Celtic looked solid defensively in midweek so should depart Fir Park with three points.
