Team News

Rangers
St. Johnstone
  • Rangers boss Philippe Clement made three changes from the Gers scraping past Hibs at home with a 1-0 win at Ibrox, before they were humbled at home by Lyon as the French outfit won 4-1 in their Europa League meeting on Thursday.
  • Jack Butland continued in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, John Souttar, Robin Pröpper and Jefte. Mohamed Diomande replaced Nicolas Raskin in midfield, to accompany Connor Barron.
  • Tom Lawrence netted a stunning winner against the Hibees and kept his place. He was joined by Nedim Bajrami, who took Ross McCausland's spot, and Vaclav Cerny in support of lone striker Cyriel Dessers, as opposed to Hamza Igamane.
  • Interim St Johnstone manager Andy Kirk made just one change after a crazy 3-3 draw in Dingwall away to Ross County, before Saints were swept aside 6-0 by Celtic at McDiarmid Park last Saturday evening.
  • Ross Sinclair continued in goal behind a back three of Kyle Cameron, Lewis Neilson and Jack Sanders. Andre Raymond and Drey Wright continued at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively.
  • Sven Sprangler and Matt Smith remained in the middle of the park, joined by Graham Carey as opposed to Jason Holt. Nicky Clark was joined in attack by Makenzie Kirk, as the suspended Benji Kimpioka and Adama Sidibeh continued to miss out.

Prediction

  • Rangers have won four of their last five Scottish Premiership games, meanwhile St Johnstone have lost four of their last five Scottish Premiership matches.
  • The Gers' recent matches are beginning to show their struggles with the Thursday-Sunday schedule, as a superb showing in Sweden and victory over Malmo was followed by a poor performance against Hibs. Granted, they came away with three points and the result is all that matters, but the fans will demand a reaction and better display as Lyon came to Ibrox and slotted four past Rangers.
  • Simo Valakari takes charge of St Johnstone for the first time, as the Finnish manager and former Motherwell midfielder was appointed Saints boss on a three-year deal to become the club's first foreign manager in the club's 140-year history. Tasks don't get much tougher than a visit to Glasgow, taking on Rangers at Ibrox, but they'll hope to turn things round now they've got their new man in the dugout.
  • Rangers claimed a 2-0 victory over St Johnstone already in Glasgow this season, beating Saints at Hampden in the League Cup, so will want to repeat the feat on Sunday night.
