Team News

Hibernian
Celtic
  • Hibernian manager David Gray handed Scottish Premiership debuts to three summer signings, goalkeeper Josef Bursik and centre-back duo Warren O'Hora and Marvin Ekpiteta, as the Hibees were thumped 3-0 in Paisley by St Mirren.
  • Jordan Obita started at left-back, with Lewis Miller at right-back last Sunday against Saints. Club captain Joe Newell and Nathan Moriah-Welsh sat in front of the Hibs back four.
  • Further forward, Josh Campbell was joined by Martin Boyle on the right-hand side and Rudi Molotnikov on the left. Dylan Vente lead the line with Mykola Kukharevych, the Ukrainian striker who has re-signed on loan from Swansea, having to make his second Hibs debut from the bench.
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers handed a competitive debut to one summer signing, as 37-year-old Danish international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel kept a clean sheet as they beat Kilmarnock 4-0 at Celtic Park on Sunday.
  • Greg Taylor, goalscorer Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston made up the reigning champions' back four. Reo Hatate - who scored the Hoops' opener - started in midfield alongside Matt O'Riley and club captain Callum McGregor.
  • Nicolas Kühn, who netted Celtic's third goal against Killie, supported Kyogo Furuhashi alongside Celts stalwart James Forrest in attack. Daizen Maeda missed the opening game of the season due to a bruised knee.

Prediction

  • The opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season couldn't have gone much differently for hosts Hibernian and visitors Celtic.
  • An opening day defeat is something of a rarity for Hibernian, who had won on six of their seven previous opening Scottish Premiership matchdays, but St Mirren have now recorded back-to-back opening weekend victories over the Hibees following a win at Easter Road last season. The games don't get any easier for Hibs, as the reigning Scottish champions Celtic come to Edinburgh.
  • The Hoops have now won their league opener in 16 of the last 17 Scottish Premiership seasons, after a resounding 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Parkhead on Sunday. For Celtic, it was simply a case of starting as they mean to go on. Whilst they have to wait to compete continentally, as well as domestically, the focus is on picking up as many Scottish Premiership points as possible.
  • Despite Celtic's recent record at Easter Road not being particularly strong, the Hoops should have too much for hosts Hibernian who were poor in Paisley last time out.
