Team News

Rangers
Kilmarnock
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named one change from the Gers team that saw off Motherwell at Fir Park 2-0 on Christmas Eve, before a disappointing defeat in the Old Firm at Parkhead against Celtic where they lost 2-1.
  • Ridvan Yilmaz, Leon Balogun - who was sent off at Celtic Park so is suspended for this one - Connor Goldson and goalscorer James Tavernier continued as the back four. John Lundstram joined Dujon Sterling, at Kieran Dowell's expense, in midfield.
  • Abdallah Sima and Ross McCausland looked to provide width on the flanks, as Todd Cantwell supported lone striker Cyriel Dessers. Scott Wright came off the bench in the Gers' only attacking change on Saturday.
  • Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes named just one change to the Killie team that secured their second away win of the season in Paisley as they beat St Mirren by a sole goal, before a dramatic 2-2 draw with Dundee which rounded off 2023.
  • Lewis Mayo, Stuart Findlay and Robbie Deas have developed a real understanding in defence but were joined by Joe Wright, who nodded Killie level, as they shifted to a back four at Rugby Park. Corrie Ndaba made way as a result.
  • Five in midfield became a four of Danny Armstrong, Brad Lyons, David Watson and Matty Kennedy. Club captain Kyle Vassell lead the line, alongside Marley Watkins who netted the winner against St Mirren in their last away match.

Prediction

  • Second hosts fourth, as Rangers play Kilmarnock at Ibrox as both sides look to build on their league position in 2024.
  • The Gers suffered their first loss under Philippe Clement, at the hands of arch-rivals Celtic, having not lost since a 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol in Cyprus back in the first week of October. While their derby day defeat was disappointing, Rangers have to try to move on and put it behind them. A victory against Kilmarnock is the first step to doing so, as they've still got two games in hand.
  • For Killie, their trip to Glasgow is something of a free hit. Rangers will expect to get back to winning ways and right the wrongs of Saturday's game, despite knowing that Kilmarnock previously got the better of them at Rugby Park this season. The visitors will hope to cause an upset as they try to maintain a spot in the top six or possibly better as European qualification is a realistic aim.
  • Despite defeat to Celtic in the derby and losing to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park back in August, Rangers will want to kick off 2024 with a comfortable win against Killie.
