Team News

St. Johnstone
Motherwell
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named five changes to the Saints team that was knocked out of the Scottish Cup against their Championship opponents Airdrieonians 1-0, before they bounced back with a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen.
  • Luke Robinson and new signing David Keltjens, who netted Saints' equaliser at McDiarmid Park in midweek, started either side of the unchanged back three. Dan Phillips and Sven Sprangler returned to midfield, joining Matt Smith in the middle of the park.
  • The incoming Diallang Jaiyesimi was supported by Graham Carey in attack. Out dropped Tony Gallacher, Fran Franczak, Max Kucheriavyi and Benjamin Kimpioka who dropped onto the bench while Nicky Clark missed out completely.
  • Stuart Kettlewell named two enforced changes to the Motherwell team that succumbed to a late leveller at Easter Road in their last league game in a 2-2 draw with Hibernian, before their 3-1 win over Alloa Athletic on Saturday.
  • Callum Slattery's season appears to be over after picking up a training injury and Arsenal loanee Mika Biereth returned to the Gunners before signing for Sturm Graz. They made way for Calum Butcher and new signing Adam Montgomery.
  • Andy Halliday made his Motherwell debut off the bench. The Steelmen also signed Sam Nicholson after booking their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, and the former Hearts winger could potentially make his debut this weekend.

Prediction

  • 10th place meets the side in ninth spot with goal difference the only distinction between St Johnstone and Motherwell ahead of the two teams meeting in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.
  • St Johnstone have only lost to the top three teams at McDiarmid Park in the Scottish Premiership, so will be hoping that home advantage can prove pivotal once again. They were perhaps unfortunate to only pick up one point against Aberdeen but will be pleased that they bounced back from a goal down, ahead of what's a crucial match in the basement battle they're embroiled in.
  • Motherwell clinched a victory, which have been hard to come by recently, after being pegged back by third-tier Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup. A tough fifth-round tie away to Morton at Cappielow awaits. However, before then the Well must pick up points in order to avoid a basement battle given they've won just one Scottish Premiership match since the first week of September.
  • Saints are winless in their last quartet of league matches and Motherwell have won just one of their last four, so a share of the spoils seems fairly certain in Perth on Saturday afternoon.
