Team News

Deportivo Alaves
Valencia
  • Ximo Navarro has a partial ligament tear in his knee and will be out for the foreseeable future.
  • Mamadou Loum is back after helping Senegal win the African Cup of Nations.
  • Jesus Vallejo is not eligible to face parent club Valencia due to a clause in the loan deal.
  • Gabriel Paulista remains out, while Jasper Cillessen is a doubt, meaning Giorgi Mamardashvili could start between the sticks having impressed earlier in the season.
  • Other injury issues have cleared up for Valencia, with Uros Racic, Hugo Guillamon and Mouctar Diakhaby among those to shake off issues.
  • Jose Bordalas is likely to stick with Hugo Duro and Goncalo Guedes up top, but Maxi Gomez and Helder Costa are also options.

Prediction

  • Alaves disappointed last time out, losing to relegation rivals Elche 3-1 in a potentially costly defeat. Joselu scored his 11th of the season, but it wasn't enough to help his side take points home from Alicante.
  • That result came after a loss to Barcelona and a 4-0 defeat to Real Betis, so Alaves really are in rotten form heading into this one. They are now 19th in the table and five points from safety having played a game more than Mallorca in 17th. The Basque side need points, and urgently.
  • Valencia are ticking along nicely, and are still within the European conversation after frustrating Real Sociedad last time out in La Liga. Los Ché are in 11th place within a cluster of teams fighting for European football, but are just five points off seventh.
  • Jose Bordalas' men were also in Copa del Rey action during the week when they drew away to Athletic Club in the semi-final first leg thanks to a Hugo Duro equaliser, and that was despite a sending off for Maxi Gomez.
  • It would be a big ask for Alaves to get anything from this one given their recent form. An away win is the most likely outcome.
