Team News

Arsenal
Leicester
  • Arsene Wenger may tinker with the side that was taken all the way to extra-time by Manchester City in their FA Cup semi-final win on Sunday.
  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a slight doubt after picking up a minor injury at Wembley at the weekend and will require assessment. This could earn Hector Bellerin a recall to the starting XI after dropping to the bench in recent matches. Kieran Gibbs could also replace Nacho Monreal on the other flank.
  • A thigh injury is expected to keep Shkodran Mustafi out once again, which will benefit Rob Holding with another chance to impress here.
  • Francis Coquelin will also be looking for minutes in midfield against Leicester, while Danny Welbeck could return to the side at the expense of Olivier Giroud.
  • Craig Shakespeare will hope to have Wes Morgan available again after he was forced off in the second leg of their Champions League meeting against Atletico Madrid with a hamstring problem nearly 10 days ago.
  • Islam Slimani has been ruled out for the trip to London with a groin injury, while the Leicester manager has confirmed Nampalys Mendy will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

Prediction

  • Arsenal will be confident ahead of the reception of the reigning Premier League champions after overcoming Manchester City to reach the FA Cup final at the weekend. However, they were taken to extra-time and there will be some tired legs towards the end of this match.
  • Leicester, by contrast, will almost have had 10 days rest by the time this match starts and will be looking to continue their league resurgence under Craig Shakespeare on Wednesday. The Foxes have won five of their last seven league matches but are winless in their last two, although they coincided with their Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid.
  • The Gunners have won each of their last three home matches against Leicester 2-1 and a repeat scoreline could be on the cards once again for Arsene Wenger's men as they look to continue their good run of results.

  • Monreal is the new Drogba. Benalouane very lucky not to be given a straight red. Leicester are a dirty team in general, Huth got away with a lot.

  • arsenal will finish fourth.

  • @bitbot02 Sadly that's now a good result for them. They really cocked it up between the Watford game and the Palace game.

  • The team selection had "resting some key guys for the game against Spurs" written all over it. Xhaka played well. Sanchez has an off night. Clearly not an Oscar candidate, despite Fuchs absurd fit of peak. Again, Welbeck made an impact. Theo, oh where art though?

  • When title chasing teams win like this, it's lauded as a sign of champions, win ugly and all that. 'Nough said

  • @Khanya Arsenal won because of a freak own goal. That's it. Should have been 0-0.

  • @Yes- Leicester were good in the first half at creating 2 decent chances from limited possession but in the 2nd half it was all Arsenal attack versus Leicester hanging on. It doesn't matter how the goal comes about if the performance warrants a win. It was unlucky for Huth to be the one who had the own goal because he played well all game, but given Giroud's position, if Huth wasn't there, it would've hit him and gone in.

  • @Yes Did you even watch the game? Arsenal were the better team.

  • @What4- People on here seem to think the end result is the correct one regardless of whether the performance from the respective teams warrants it. Impossible to argue against people with such flawed logic. I accidentally downvoted you btw. The ridiculous graphic ad for the new Warhammer game makes the page freeze and I was clicking like a nutter trying to unfreeze it. Not a fan of computers as you can tell. Anyways, ignore it.

  • @Yes well, it was consistent pressure and someone taking a risk that lead to the own goal. Sometimes you have to create your own luck. Monreal stepped up, showing his experience. That kind of luck is part of football, and persistence creates it.

  • Really negative team selection from Wenger. 5 defenders and Coquelin at home from the start against Leicester. Clueless and 0-0 written all over it frankly. Let's see if the formation and personnel change after subs can pay dividends or not. Either way the initial line up shows Wenger is clueless.

  • @Yes Seriously fella, do you even watch football? That is how a 3-4-2-1 works.

  • @Yes well this is awkward

  • @JoeSWFC Everything that happened in the game proved me right. In future learn something about the game before commenting.

  • @JoeSWFC It was a nailed on 0-0 before the formation switch and changes. It was a nailed on 0-0 regardless and took a freak own goal to break the deadlock. You are dumb beyond belief as is whoever else who down voted me. You people are clueless.

  • I think we'll see another disappointment from The Gunners tonight. 1-2

  • Arsenal won't win. Leicester are a motivated team of late. And having scored atleast 2 goals in the last 3 away games. I'm confident they will either pick a 2-2 draw or win whatever the score

  • Whoscored dumping their favorite team arsenal for spurs as that match is star rated....hahahaha

  • Arsenal wins and btts...

  • 3 1

  • I see no reason not to start the same XI who have started the last 2 games, in the same formation. They will have had 3 days rest and be full of confidence. The Gabriel/Chamberlain axis has been excellent in the last 2 games both defensively and offensively. We really have no choice but to persevere with that system while Mustafi is injured and although we could substitute a couple of players for another, it makes more sense for the same XI to have as many minutes under their belt before the crucial Spurs & Man Utd fixtures as possible than possibly negate all of the work done in adapting to the new system. Leicester have only won 1 away from home all season, averaging just under a goal per game, whereas we have lost only twice at home while averaging just over 2 goals per game, so I expect us to win. It will be tougher than a couple of months ago but provided we don't defend too high, I believe we'll have enough. 2-0.

  • @SteveHyland I'd agree except for the NLD on the weekend.

  • I want to comment on the template of this Arsenal system. Oxlade-Chamberlain was whoscored MOTM vs Man City in FA cup semi (lasted 105mins before getting subbed) and played 90 minutes vs Middlesborough. Monreal played the last two games also and scored against Manchester City. Ramsey played both games in full. Unless these players have fatigue they will all start again. I see no reason for Coquelin in this system at all, he's struggled in 4 at the back system this season and a 3 at the back system suits him even less. If Arsenal play a back 3 I expect Oxlade-Chamberlain, Monreal and Ramsey to start again (unless fatigued). I do think it's possible Wenger reverts to a back 4 here anyway considering Arsenal are at home against a defensive side that has struggled this season away from home. In which case it's possible Bellerin gets a game and Arsenal revert to 4-2-3-1 system they used to beat West Ham with Walcott coming back into the side on the right flank.

  • @Yes- It's almost certain Wenger will keep the 3-4-2-1 until Mustafi is back, which will be the Spurs game at the earliest. I think even if Shkodran is fit for that game, Wenger will keep the back 3.

  • Ox MoM in this match again even though WS hasn't even put on the probably line ups!

  • The only game that Leicester have won away from home was against West Ham.... Arsenal 2-1 Leicester.

  • @MEHJones Agree that an Arsenal win is likely. The way Arsenal are playing 2-1 is probably what I will predict too. Leicester's away record is absolutely terrible. 7 points from 16 games.

  • Arsenal 1-2 Leicester

  • Easy win for the mighty Arsenal. Only 7 games away from the premier league title.
