Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Bayern Player Ratings: Bayern take huge step towards title

Bayern Munich secured the bragging rights in Der Klassiker, inflicting Borussia Dortmund's first home defeat of the season, and took a huge step towards their eighth successive Bundesliga title as Joshua Kimmich's first half goal proved enough to secure a 1-0 win at the Westfalenstadion.

Borussia Dortmund - 6.61

Roman Burki - 5.90: Should have done much better to deny Joshua Kimmich from putting Bayern ahead having gotten a hand to the midfielder's chip, committing his second error leading to an opposition goal of the season in the process. Made a good stop to deny Leon Goretzka early in the second half to help make amends for his first half gaffe, that one of three total saves.

Lukasz Piszczek - 7.26: Was in the right place at the right time to deny Serge Gnabry from opening the scoring after 18 minutes. Taken off for Mario Gotze in the dying embers as Borussia Dortmund pushed for an equaliser.

Mats Hummels - 7.73: Did well to shepherd Alphonso Davies out of play in the first half as the Bayern left-back sought to get round the outside of the Borussia Dortmund defender. Showed his knack for being in the right place at the right time as he made six clearances and five interceptions in a mature display.

Manuel Akanji - 6.63: Perhaps the weak link in the Borussia Dortmund defence, the centre-back was routinely targetted down the Bayern right.

Achraf Hakimi - 6.74: A showing way below his usual performance levels. The on-loan wing-back looked overwhelmed when on the ball and spent more time on the back foot than as one of Dortmund's main creative threats.

Thomas Delaney - 6.48: Showcased his commendable reading of the game in the opening 45 minutes as he made two interceptions, however was replaced with Emre Can at the break.

Mahmoud Dahoud - 6.67: Booked midway through the second half and shortly after, stung the palms of Manuel Neuer with a rasping long-range drive before he was taken off for Axel Witsel late on.

Raphael Guerreiro - 7.68: Borussia Dortmund's most dangerous attacking player as he completed three dribbles and created three goalscoring chances. Worked incredibly hard off the ball too as he made three tackles and two interceptions in a fine showing from the in-form wing-back.

Thorgan Hazard - 6.66: Should have done better when handed the chance to equalise on a platter by Emre Can, but was offside to spare his embarrassment. The home side's most creative player, having made four key passes, yet still a 90-minute showing to forget.

Julian Brandt - 6.37: Withdrawn at the break having been a bright spark as his hard work off the ball eased the pressure on the home side's defence, but failed to create a chance as he was replaced with Jadon Sancho at half time.

Erling Haaland - 6.45: Must have thought he had done enough to put Borussia Dortmund ahead in the opening minute only to see his shot on target cleared off the line by Jerome Boateng. The same player saw the Norwegian's effort behind for a corner, albeit with a hint of handball that could have gone to a VAR review for a penalty shortly after the restart. Forced off midway through the second half with a knee injury.

Subs:  Jadon Sancho - 6.49, Emre Can - 6.43, Giovanni Reyna - 6.05, Mario Gotze - 6.09, Axel Witsel - 6.13

Bayern Munich - 6.89

Manuel Neuer - 7.05: Endured a heart in throat moment after a minute when he misjudged a clearance, but his blushes were spared by compatriot Jerome Boateng. On hand to turn a stinging Mahmoud Dahoud effort in the second half, that one of four saves in total.

Benjamin Pavard - 6.64: Not a stand out display, but did enough down his side of the pitch to help Bayern to a clean sheet. Wasn't dribbled past at all in the narrow win.

Jerome Boateng - 8.05: Made an excellent clearance off the line in the opening minute after Erling Haaland had rounded Manuel Neuer. Contentiously blocked a Haaland effort early in the second half and could have been penilised for handball. Played the ball out from the back well, returning a 92.4% pass success rate in a man of the match showing, and was taken off for Lucas Hernandez with five minutes to play.

David Alaba - 7.17: A composed display alongside Jerome Boateng at the heart of the Bayern backline. Found a teammate with 62 of his 65 passes and won all three aerial duels he contested in a solid showing.

Alphonso Davies - 7.08: Highlight of the first half came as he raced back to deny Erling Haaland from getting an effort away. Burst up field without a second invitation and had the recovery speed and defensive nous to work his way back when required. Completed more dribbles (5) than any other player across the 90 minutes.

Joshua Kimmich - 7.76: Showed excellent awareness to spot Roman Burki off his line just minutes before the break to put Bayern ahead with a superb chip. Dictated play from the middle of the park, having made 72 accurate passes in a composed performance.

Leon Goretzka - 7.50: Forced Roman Burki into a solid second half save as he low 20-yard drive looked to be nestling in the far corner. Showcased his commendable reading of the game with two interceptions and got forward well where required, completing two of three dribbles.

Kingsley Coman - 6.96: Final ball lacking, but found space down the Bayern right before his second half withdrawal as he looked to maximise the gap between Raphael Guerreiro and Manuel Akanji.

Thomas Muller - 6.38: May have created three goalscoring chances, but this was a fairly anonymous performance from the Bayern cult hero. Indeed, was yellow carded midway through the second half.

Serge Gnabry - 6.84: Not his best performance by any stretch, yet beat an opponent well when required as he was successful with his two attempted dribbles. Made an additional two tackles and two key passes for the away side.

Robert Lewandowski - 6.41: Not the most memorable display from the Bundesliga's top scorer at his old stomping ground, yet could have added to his 27 league goals in the 83rd minute as his long range effort beat Roman Burki, but not the post.

Subs: Ivan Perisic - 6.36, Lucas Hernandez - 6.08, Javi Martinez - 6.11
