Bayern displaced atop European form rankings by shock new leader

There’s a new leader in the team form rankings from Europe’s top five leagues, with Bayern displaced from their number one spot despite another convincing win at the weekend.

The Bundesliga champions were 3-0 victors at Hannover but Lyon have leapfrogged Jupp Heynckes’ side, becoming the only team in the top divisions to win each of their last six league matches.

Moreover, OL have done so in some style, with a 5-2 win against Dijon last time out taking their goal tally to 19 over said matches, with Memphis Depay and Bertrand Traore impressing in particular and Bruno Genesio now boosted by the return of Nabil Fekir.

Having looked in real danger of missing out on a Champions League spot ahead of the OIympique derby versus Marseille last month, Lyon are now hot on the heels of a stuttering Monaco in second.

Elsewhere Hoffenheim are up one place into third this week after an outstanding 5-2 victory of their own over RB Leipzig in what was another huge match in the race for European places. Julian Nagelsmann’s men have now gone eight league games unbeaten with the young manager’s stock very much on the rise once more.

Paris Saint-Germain drop to fourth after a subdued performance by their standards, winning 1-0 against Bordeaux, while Real Madrid, Manchester City and Real Betis have overtaken Barcelona after the latter’s stalemate with Celta Vigo this time last week. Betis earned a sixth consecutive clean sheet and a point at Atletico at the weekend, while City romped to victory over Swansea to celebrate their title in emphatic fashion.

The leaderboard is completed by Marseille and Lazio, each securing fourth wins in six in the league courtesy of four-goal winning margins and shunting Juventus and Fiorentina out of the top ten in the process.
